Ericsson announces the winners of the 3rd
Kacip @ Cut-Edge Awards
Kuala Lumpur, Mon, July 7, 2003 - Ericsson, the world leader in
mobility, revealed the winners of Malaysia's leading award for
mobile applications. Entering its third year, the Kacip @ Cut-Edge
Awards competition acknowledges home-grown talent and business
potential of local mobile services.
Open from Nov 14, 2002, the competition is divided into two
categories - Professional and Student. For the first time in its
history, the competition is opened to non-members of Ericsson
Mobility World Malaysia.
The evening was opened by the Minister of Energy, Communications &
Multimedia, YB Datuk Amar Leo Moggie. In his speech, he challenged
the developers and the service providers to push the envelope for
more innovative solutions to address the unique needs of Malaysians.
"The multi-cultural population in Malaysia creates many
opportunities and challenges for developers. With the advent of
higher speeds of downloads by the service providers such as GPRS and
in time, 3G technology, mobile services will be play an even bigger
role in our lives," as the Honourable Minister explained.
"By working in partnership with various parties in the ICT industry,
we can create a closer knit of co-operation to bring more variety of
mobile services to the market," said Mats H Olsson, President &
Country Manager, Ericsson Malaysia. "Ericsson recognises the
abundance of local talent in Malaysia, and we are determined to
nurture them to be national players as we guide them to gain
regional recognition."
He added, "It is Ericsson's intention to accelerate the awareness
amongst the public of the innumerable benefits of wireless
applications, and that is what the Kacip @ Cut-Edge Awards is all
about - rewarding and recognising the people who took the risk and
won acceptance in the market."
In total, about 50 entries were submitted for both categories over a
four-month period. The entries were judged based on four criteria -
Right User Focus, Rich Experience, Invisible Technology and Partners
Incentives. All applications were judged in accordance with the
Ericsson's 0-1-2-3 concept. (See Fact Sheet for more information.)
Judging was conducted by a select group of judges that represented
key players of the industry. They were YBhg Dato' V Danabalan from
the Multimedia Development Corporation; to represent the service
providers' were Mohd Fauzi Omar, Chief Operating Officer of TIME
dotcom Berhad; Steve Martineau, General Manager of Strategy Product
Management, Maxis Communications Berhad; Khairil Anuar Abdullah,
Associate Director, ASEAN of AT Kearney Inc; and Dr Mazlan Abbas,
Vice President of Network Management, Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad. The
panel was chaired by Mats H Olsson, President & Country Manager of
Ericsson Malaysia.
