invests RM3m to cash in on SMS usage

Local mobility solutions provider QuickNet Com (M) Sdn Bhd has
invested RM3 million in infrastructure to capitalize on the surge in
mobile short message services (SMS) usage to provide improved
business communications.
Executive chairman and chief strategist Ramli Amat said the past six
months have seen a tremendous surge in the usage of SMS.
"We are confident the market is ready for business specific
messaging services for executives and enterprises," he said.
Local average usage, according to industry sources, is estimated at
more than 500 million SMS per month for last year.
Ramli said this at the launch of QuickNet Com's mobile Internet
portal www.mobileExec.net,
Enterprise solutions, Executive and Enterprise and messaging
application services in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
"mobileExec provides delivery of messages across multiple carrier
networks to any mobile and wireless devices, including mobile phones
and personal digital assistants (PDAs).
It leverages on the proven technology of US Nasdaq-listed global
provider of mobile Internet infrastructure software and
applications, 724 Solutions Inc."
724 Solutions Inc, QuickNet Com's partner, delivers secure mobile
transactions for financial institutions and mobile operators,
including Nortel Networks, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase & Co,
Citigroup, Credit Suisse Group and the Hanvit Bank in Korea.
In Malaysia, mobileExec provides integrated messaging services to
and from five mobile telephone operators comprising of Celcom, Digi,
Maxis, TMTouch and Time.
MobileExec (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Gilbert Chang said: "Within
the next 12 months, we are confident of securing 10,000 executives
and small medium industry (SMI) customers with mobileExec, and 100
enterprises nationwide."
"We are targeting revenues of RM10 million over the next 10 months.
We expect a 100 per cent year-on-year growth over the next three
years with the growing interest in the use of mobile wireless
applications.
Ramli said QuickNet Com is in the process of building customised
applications for a Malaysian bank and working with an IT company and
a dotcom company.
Chang said MobileExec will be launching the Multi-Way SMS and the
Mobile Payments selection over the next three months.
The Multi-User account management system will be introduced by the
end of the first quarter.
