One of the ways to enhance communications among business executives
is by using messaging solutions. One company that provides such
solution is QuickNet COm (M) Sdn. Bhd through MobileExec, a mobile
Internet portal. MobileExec delivers a host of messaging solutions
and services targeted at the business community.
According to
QuickNet Com's executive chairman chief strategist Ramli Amat,
MobileExec delivers short message services (SMS) across carrier
networks such as Maxis, Celcom, TMtouch, Digi and TimeCel to any
mobile and wireless devices. This includes mobile phones and
personal digital assistants.
In building
its infrastructure and network, QuickNet Com is partnering with
Canadian-based technology provider 724 Solutions Inc. The services,
including SMS, are carried-out at high speed using the company's
leased lines to major mobile operators.
"If there is a
requirement or demand for foreign mobile operators (via the gateway
providers), the company will provide such service," he said during a
Press briefing.
MobileExec
offers executive messaging application services and enterprise
messaging application services. Executive messaging is a prepaid
service that offers features like sending messages to individuals or
groups, message status, alerts and time delayed SMS for sending
personal reminders at a specific time.
The services
which are Web-based allow users to sign-up, pay and top-up their
accounts through the Internet.
Enterprise
messaging is a post-paid multi-user application service for
corporate customers. Among the services provided are billing where
customers are billed at the end of each month. The service can be
accessed via the Internet browsers using a dial-up or leased line
and volume discounts on messages.
The other
service is enterprise solution. This is a customized application
services using components. It is a project-based approach with
requirements definition, application customization and data
migration, testing and commissioning. This service is suitable for
solutions like portals and gateways, mobile customer relationship
management and field force automation (sales and technical).
During the
Press briefing, the company also shared its future plans with the
media. One of the features expected to be available next month for
TMtouch and Celcom users is sending messages from personal computer
(PC) via the Internet to mobile phone and vice versa.
For example,
when a message is received from a PC, it will bear a unique
identification that identifies from which MobileExec's account the
message originitaing from, therefore the reply can be routed into
the right inbox. If the recipient is required to reply from the
MobileExec inbox, just key in the short code such as "3388" for
Celcom. This identifies the mobile operator's SMS centre. The user
needs to type a special code such as "000" to indicate which service
he or she is using. For example, "000" means replying to the
sender's account inbox or "001" means replying to the sender's
mobile device.
Other services
in the pipeline include sending SMS from server to mobile and
vice-versa (before June this year), multi-way SMS, mobile payments
and multi-user account management system. These applications are
expected to be available in six to nine months' time.
QuickNet Com
has invested about RM3 million in infrastructure and networking.
This includes software development, Internet service provider backup
to both TMnet and Jaring, leased lines to various mobile operators
and human resource and training.
